Taiwan Volcano Observatory-Tatun - from Knowledge to Experience

2024-10-23
In addition to monitoring volcanic activity, science education is regarded as a crucial component of volcanic disaster prevention. Collaborating with the Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters, the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) has transformed the Jingshan Nature Center into a multifunctional volcanic monitoring exhibition. The site applies technology for presentations and interactive experiences to increase interest in volcanoes. The lobby, designed to emulate a scientist's study, transforms into a scientific immersion theater, offering a 360-degree audiovisual experience. Visitors can activate 12 thematic panoramic effects for unique experiences. The core monitoring room is unveiled with an artistic infrasound performance. Utilizing holographic projection, the main area showcases content related to volcanic monitoring, the discovery of magma reservoir, and the theme of a volcano's heartbeat. Screens above provide real-time data on monitoring volcano activity. The entire venue is interconnected via corridors, facilitating a seamless flow of knowledge encompassing the origin of volcanoes, daily volcanic monitoring, and mitigation of volcanic disasters. Exhibits include instrument displays, multimedia interactions, and seismic wave experiences, enriching visitors' understanding of volcanoes through sensory experiences.
